On November 24th, 2023, the U13 Rep B(A) Leitrim Hawks played their first game in the 18th annual Capital Mid-Season Showdown. Even though it was a PA day and most of the kids didn't get to miss school, that didn't stop them from playing hard. In a hard-fought battle against the Newmarket Renegades, Hawks came out on top 5-4. After lunch and a team meeting in a bank vault, they travelled to Cavanagh Sensplex to blank the Cambridge Hawks 5-0. The second day started off a bit rough with the East Enders TiCats coming back in the third period to tie 2-2. The Hawks came out fighting playing "Hawks Hockey" against the Oakville Rangers to take the 3-0 win. In the semifinals vs the Napanee Stars, Hawks were down 1-0 going into the second period but went on to score three unanswered goals and an empty netter to head to the finals with a 4-1 win. We suspect the team's motivation to win was supplemented by the coach promising to wear whatever suit the team picked to the final if they won. Although they fought hard and never gave up, they ended up winning the silver in a rematch against the Oakville Rangers Red. Congratulations to the Oakville Rangers on the win.
